A partnership between Auburn University and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitative Services (ADRS) is set to expand access to specialized care for veterans living with traumatic brain injuries. The collaboration will connect former service members with clinical resources, rehabilitation programs, and case management services designed to address the long-term effects of TBIs sustained during military service.
Building a Regional Support Network
Under the agreement, Auburn's outreach teams will work alongside ADRS counselors to identify veterans who may benefit from ongoing therapy, assistive technology, and vocational rehabilitation. Officials involved in the partnership say the goal is to reduce gaps in care by streamlining referrals and ensuring that veterans in rural and underserved areas of east Alabama can reach qualified providers without lengthy travel.
What Veterans Can Expect
Participants in the expanded program will be matched with a dedicated coordinator who can guide them through assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up care. The initiative also emphasizes family involvement, recognizing that TBI recovery often requires support from caregivers and community networks.
The expanded services are expected to roll out in phases over the coming months, with initial outreach focused on veterans already enrolled in VA health systems in Lee and surrounding counties.
